Futopia 2017 was a collaborative project curated by Alison Woods and Kio Griffith at BLAM Projects, Los Angeles.

For this project Futopia focused on the 2017 election of Donald Trump, Brexit, mass immigration of Syrian refugees, and impending climate change. All these factors combined seemed to signal a world on the brink of sudden and transformative change. The rising global power of the 1% at the expense of the 99% had left the world’s populations feeling helpless to redirect the course of a world perceived as spinning out of control.

This mixed media installation included works dealing with people’s collective fears around social and political change.  Works included painting, sculpture, and installation.

Participating artists included Gul Cagin, Helen Chung, Eben Goff, Pete Hickok , Bryan Ida, Ma Li, Alanna Marcelletti, Alex Schaefer, and Lena Kazakova Wolek.
